How the calculation works
The calculator adds your tip (as a percentage of the subtotal) and tax to the bill, then divides the total by the number of people. It's the fastest way to split a bill when everyone ordered roughly the same amount.
When an even split isn't fair
If one person had a three-course meal and another just a coffee, an even split overcharges the lighter eater. In that case you want an itemised split, with tax and tip shared in proportion to what each person ordered.
